Sultan urges intelligence-led policing to tackle insecurity in Sokoto

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has urged the Nigeria Police Force to prioritise intelligence-led operations in tackling insecurity and addressing emerging security threats.

The Sultan made the call on Wednesday when the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 10, Ahmed Musa, paid him a courtesy visit at his palace in Sokoto.

The visit was part of Musa’s familiarisation tour following his recent appointment as the 25th AIG to head the zonal command.

According to a statement by the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Faruk Abdallah Ambursa, the Sultan commended police officers serving in Sokoto State for their sacrifices in protecting lives and property.

He also expressed optimism that stronger collaboration between the traditional institution and the police would contribute to sustainable solutions to the security challenges facing the region.

The Sultan further emphasised the importance of peaceful conduct during the forthcoming elections, offering prayers for peace, stability, and orderliness throughout the campaign period and the general elections.

Earlier, Musa said the visit was intended to familiarise himself with the traditional institution and formally announce his assumption of duty.

The AIG, who was accompanied by the Commissioner of Police, Sokoto State Command, and other senior officers, said he previously served as AIG in charge of Community Policing at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

He assured the Sultan and the people of Sokoto of his commitment to strengthening community policing as part of efforts to combat insecurity across the zone.

The statement said the visit ended with the Sultanate assuring the police of continued institutional support and stronger cooperation in addressing security challenges.
