The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) will on Saturday [today] honour Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori with its Christian Icon Award as part of activities marking the association’s 50th anniversary.
TheNewsGuru (TNG) reports the award ceremony is scheduled for the National Christian Centre, Central Business District in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
CAN announced Oborevwori’s nomination in a letter dated August 14, 2026, signed by its President, Most Rev. (Dr.) Daniel C. Okoh, alongside other officials of the association.
The association said the award recognises distinguished leaders who demonstrate excellence, integrity, commitment to nation-building and the values of faith and service in their public and political engagements.
According to CAN, Oborevwori’s contributions to the nation through public service, compassion and ethical leadership have continued to inspire generations.
“Your contributions to our nation through public service — grounded in values of service, compassion, and ethical leadership — continue to inspire generations across the nation,” the association stated in the letter.
CAN added that the recognition celebrates leaders whose conduct reflects Christian principles and commitment to service.
The award ceremony forms part of activities marking the association’s Golden Jubilee in October 2026.
The letter was also signed by CAN’s co-chairmen of the Planning Committee, Boss Mustapha and Archbishop Michael Akinwale.
The association has invited Oborevwori to attend the ceremony and receive the award alongside other eminent recipients.
