Alabama’s top receiver got hurt twice against Georgia.
The second injury ended his afternoon.
Alabama Crimson Tide coach Kalen DeBoer told reporters after the Georgia Bulldogs won 20-17 that wide receiver Ryan Coleman-Williams has a head injury. He never came back after exiting with 10:53 left in the final quarter at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
DeBoer didn’t add much at the postgame podium.
“Ryan’s got a head injury,” DeBoer said.
The trouble started before halftime, when Coleman-Williams landed awkwardly on an end-zone throw and needed help to hop to the sideline. He was back out there for Alabama’s first possession after the break.
His second exit followed a Keelon Russell pass that Georgia defensive back Demello Jones knocked away. Coleman-Williams’ head appeared to slam into the turf as he fell, and medical staff checked him before he headed inside.
Even with the early departure, he finished as Alabama’s top pass catcher with three catches for 39 yards.
Coleman-Williams entered with 20 receptions for 376 yards and four touchdowns in five games, a strong rebound from last season’s 49 catches for 689 yards and four scores. His touchdown a week earlier against Mississippi State moved him into a tie for ninth in career catches in program history.
That pushed him past Julio Jones and Joey Jones and level with Ozzie Newsome.
He wasn’t the only starter DeBoer lost. Center Racin Delgatty hurt his leg late, while nose tackle Terrance Green aggravated an injury from the previous week, the coach said.
“Racin will be evaluated,” DeBoer said. “He’s got a lower-leg injury there, so we’ll see kind of what that looks like here in the days ahead.”
Georgia kicker Peyton Woodring shook off an earlier miss and made the deciding field goal with 5:19 remaining. The Bulldogs moved to 6-0, and Kirby Smart picked up his first regular-season win over Alabama. His two previous wins over the Crimson Tide as Georgia’s coach both came in postseason play.
Alabama’s next game is on the road at Tennessee on Oct. 17, with kickoff at 2:30 p.m. CT.
