Many feared dead as tanker fire engulfs Edo market, filling station

Many people are feared dead after a fuel-laden tanker burst into flames on Thursday in Oluku, Benin City, Edo State, with the fire spreading to the popular Oluku Market, a filling station, shops and nearby buildings.

The incident reportedly occurred after the tanker fell in the area, attracting people who rushed to scoop its contents, apparently unaware of the danger.

Eyewitnesses said the situation took a devastating turn when the tanker suddenly burst into flames, engulfing the area and trapping some of those gathered around it.

A video circulating on social media showed people who appeared to have sustained severe burns, highlighting the scale of the incident.
