Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital (MGMGH), Tiruchi, has received approval from the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB) for its Positron Emission Tomography and Computed Tomography (PET-CT) facility and trial runs are scheduled to commence next week, sources said.
“PET-CT is widely used in the evaluation of lymphoma, lung cancer, head and neck cancer, colorectal cancer, oesophageal cancer, and melanoma. Specialised PET imaging techniques are available for specific cancers. We have received the licence from AERB and radiation sources, and trials are being planned. Once they are successfully completed, the facility will be ready for inauguration soon,” a senior hospital source told The Hindu.
Bengaluru-based company Matrix Imaging Solutions India began the execution of the project under the ‘Build, Own and Operate’ model of private-public partnership in 2025, which is expected to significantly improve the cancer care offered by MGMGH.
The new facility will spare patients the need to travel to public hospitals in other districts for treatment and follow-up.
