Tashkent faced a shortage of 141,000 school places in the 2025-2026 academic year, with the deficit projected to reach 212,000 by 2030-2031 as the number of students continues to grow, according to a presentation reviewed by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

The number of students in Tashkent is expected to increase by 71,000, or 14%, over the next five years, further straining the city’s school infrastructure.
To address the deficit, the government plans to create 126,000 new school places by 2030, including 48,000 funded by the republican budget and 78,000 by the local budget.
The measures are expected to reduce the school load factor from the current 1.4 to 1.2 by 2030.

Projects for 24 new schools with a combined capacity of 38,000 students have also been prepared for the 2026-2027 academic year. The schools will have a total area of 64,600 square meters.
The proposed school designs include 17 additional features, such as dedicated learning spaces, libraries, multipurpose halls for sports and cultural events, inclusive classrooms, ramps and elevators.
Private educational centers are also expected to cooperate with public schools, allowing students to prepare for university entrance exams and study foreign languages on school premises.
