The Ministry of Local Government has concluded a three-day induction for lower local government leaders from Buruli County in Masindi District, with participants urged to apply the knowledge and skills acquired to strengthen leadership, accountability and service delivery at the grassroots.
The induction brought together leaders from lower local governments for capacity building in key areas of governance. The training covered legislation, communication skills, cross-cutting issues, planning and budgeting, human resource management, mindset change and other essential aspects of effective leadership.
Speaking on behalf of the participants, Kijunjubwa Town Council LCIII Chairperson Jassi Yahaya commended facilitators from the Ministry of Local Government for equipping leaders with practical knowledge to help them execute their responsibilities more effectively.
Yahaya said the training had enhanced their understanding of their leadership roles and would help them serve their communities better.
However, he appealed to the government’s top leadership to consider increasing facilitation for lower local government leaders, arguing that improved support would motivate them to perform their duties more effectively.
Closing the induction, Masindi District Chairperson Patrick Wobusobozi challenged the leaders to translate the knowledge acquired into practical action, noting that the success of the training would be reflected in responsible leadership, sound decision-making and improved service delivery.
He urged the leaders to promote security, unity and peace in their respective communities, emphasising that a peaceful and united population provides a strong foundation for sustainable development in Masindi District.
Wobusobozi also called on the leaders to take a firm stand against corruption and uphold integrity, transparency and accountability in the execution of their duties.
The induction is part of the Ministry of Local Government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the capacity of local government leaders, improve their understanding of their mandates and promote effective, accountable and citizen-centred service delivery across the country.
