Counties on high alert for heavy rainfall
Bungoma, Kakamega, Trans Nzoia, and Nandi are among the counties identified as likely to receive heavy rainfall during the forecast window. The warning also flagged isolated storms over parts of the affected counties.
The meteorological authority issued a series of safety advisories alongside the warning. Residents were advised against seeking shelter under trees during thunderstorms and were cautioned not to drive or walk through flooded roads, waterways, or low-lying areas.
The authority also urged people to avoid outdoor activities during heavy storms and called on the public to monitor official channels for updates.
"Stay informed. Stay safe. Act early," the authority stated in its warning.
Beyond the western region, the authority's weather outlook noted that rainfall was expected across a broader range of counties, including Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi, Nairobi, Nakuru, and Kisumu, among others.
Strong southerly to southeasterly winds exceeding 25 knots (12.5 metres per second) were also forecast over parts of Turkana, Samburu, Marsabit, Wajir, Garissa, Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi, and Tana River counties.
