Hollywood star Zendaya is set to collaborate with filmmaker Alex Garland on his next feature film, which will mark his return to the science-fiction genre.
Garland, who helmed experimental sci-fi films Ex Machina (2014) and Annihilation (2018), will write and direct the untitled project for independent studio A24.
Production on the film is scheduled to begin in 2027, while details about its plot and additional cast members remain under wraps, Variety reported.
The project marks another collaboration between Zendaya and A24, following the hit HBO series Euphoria and the recent box-office success The Drama.
Garland has a long-standing association with A24, which has produced and distributed several of his films, including Civil War, Men and Warfare.
The studio is also backing Garland’s upcoming big-budget adaptation of the video game Elden Ring. The film features Kit Connor, Cailee Spaeny, Ben Whishaw, Nick Offerman and Tom Burke. Production has wrapped, with the film scheduled for release in March 2028.
Zendaya featured in two major releases of 2026 — Christopher Nolan’s mythological epic The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The latter marks her fourth superhero film appearance, with the actress reprising her role as Michelle “MJ” Jones-Watson.
She will next appear in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Three, which is scheduled to release in theatres worldwide in December.
