Nothing has been pretty transparent about its Android 17 plans, providing a clear roadmap for supported devices. The Phone (3) was first in line, with a beta that dropped in August. Now we're getting an official release with big changes and new features.
We're looking forward to it

The news was announced on the Nothing community page, showcasing the Nothing OS 5.0 general release. While there's a lot to talk about, the brand shared that this release will feature a "redesigned Launcher, Micrographics clock face, refreshed design system, deeper personalization, smoother performance, improved Essential AI tools and the best of Android 17."
You really can't go wrong with a major OS release. Not only does it make your phone feel fresh, but it also brings a ton of new features to experiment with. Nothing did a pretty good job of breaking down everything that comes with Nothing OS 5.0. Since it's built on Android 17, you're getting a more refined Android experience.
Naturally, Nothing has built its own customizations into the software so that it will work seamlessly with its products. With Nothing OS 5.0, the brand is making a big statement, changing up the look and feel. It has tweaked small things like the "Typography, icons, spacing, materials and motion."
The Settings menu gets cleaned up, making it much easier to navigate. The same can be said about the Status Bar as well. The Camera app delivers "updated icons, cleaner controls and more polished motion, making important controls easier to identify without distracting from the viewfinder."
The Nothing Gallery app also gets some refinements and improvements, making it easier to sort through the photos you care about most. Perhaps more important is the ability to better personalize your home screen. Transparent details and subtle color tints make your icons meld with the wallpaper to create a more collective feel.
Nothing has also included a bunch of new widgets, giving you more ways to explore tools that might be helpful at a glance. The Collector widget is going to be a personal highlight, allowing you to create widget icons from your personal photos.
You can now take the clutter you love and clutter your phone for some added personality. It's not going to be for everyone, but it's something fun that some people are going to enjoy. Again, there's so much to mention that you'll really want to take a deep dive into all the new settings and features.
When is it coming to other Nothing phones?
The good news is that Nothing has clearly detailed when the update is coming to each of its supported phones. The next push is slated to arrive in early November, with Android 17 landing on the Nothing (3A) and Nothing (4A) series phones. The Nothing (2A) will get the update in mid-November and the Phone (3A) Lite will see the update sometime in late December.
Finally, the Nothing (4B) and CMF Phone 2 Pro will see the Android 17 update in January. For the most part, things will probably go as planned. But there could always be hiccups. But it's good to see the brand details everything so you aren't left wondering whether your phone will get new features or not.
