In a news release, the RCMP said that on Oct. 22 at around 2:50 p.m., emergency crews responded to a two-vehicle collision between a car and a garbage truck on Route 207 in Belfast.
The RCMP said it appeared the car failed to brake and collided with the back of the garbage truck that was in the same lane.
The 87-year-old man from Queens County who was driving the car was pronounced dead at the scene, the RCMP said, adding that the two men working in the garbage truck weren’t injured.
An RCMP collision reconstructionist attended, and Route 207 was closed for several hours while investigators examined the scene.
The police said the investigation remained ongoing as Kings District RCMP work in consultation with the Provincial Coroner’s Office to determine the circumstances surrounding the collision.
