The Mubende High Court Circuit has opened a criminal session targeting 50 cases involving offences such as aggravated defilement, murder, rape, aggravated robbery and human trafficking.
The session began with a pre-session meeting on October 14, 2026, chaired by Justice Anthony Oyuko Ojok, who urged justice sector stakeholders to prioritise timely proceedings and improve the administration of justice.
Justice Ojok commended the Judiciary’s top management for allocating resources to facilitate the session and called on stakeholders to observe time, summon only relevant witnesses and use the court’s installed information technology systems to improve efficiency.
“Although 50 cases have been listed for this session, I am prepared to handle more cases involving inmates interested in plea bargaining,” Ojok said.
During a joint cause-listing exercise, stakeholders prioritised older cases, matters involving women and juveniles, and cases involving inmates held at Kitalya, Kaweeri and Muinaina prisons.
Some longstanding cases involving accused persons released on bail were also included in the session.
The pre-session meeting, moderated by His Worship Rogers Kinobe Binega, brought together representatives from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, Justice Centres in Mubende and Kyegegwa, state brief lawyers, police, prisons, probation officers and court assessors.
The stakeholders resolved that the session would begin with plea-taking on Friday, October 16, before proceeding to hearings of the listed cases.
The arrangement is intended to improve coordination among the justice sector agencies and support the timely disposal of cases.
