The exhibition Ikebana in the Season of Chrysanthemums opens on 13 October at 5 pm at the National Museum of Earth and People in Sofia. Until 18 October, visitors will be able to admire floral arrangements by the Japanese Sogetsu school, inspired by autumn and the chrysanthemum.
In Japanese culture, the flower symbolises the sun, longevity, nobility and vitality. Its stylised image is also the emblem of the Japanese imperial family.
Ikebana is the traditional Japanese art of arranging flowers and plants, in which particular importance is attached to line, space and balance. Founded in 1927, the Sogetsu school encourages free artistic expression.
The exhibition has been organised by Bulgarian ikebana instructors and will be open from 10 am to 6 pm on each of the days indicated.
