New Delhi, October 8: India will soon introduce the system of entry permits for visitors from such of those Commonwealth countries as have similar restrictions in regard to Indian citizens.
Visas are not required to be taken out by citizens of Commonwealth countries for visits from one country to another but, in some cases, the permit system had been introduced to regulate entry. For instance, Indians going to the U.K. were required to take out permits, while there was no such restriction on British nationals or British passport-holders coming to India. It is now proposed to have entry permits on a reciprocal basis in regard to those countries of the Commonwealth which have been regulating the entry of Indians.
This proposal is “under active consideration” said Mr. Om Mehta, Minister of State for Home Affairs, who has just returned from the U.K.
