Singer and former Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) director Asif Akbar has filed an attempted murder case over a shooting at his parked private car in the capital's Moghbazar area, but police have yet to identify the shooter.
Asif filed the case with Hatirjheel Police Station of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) last night (24 October).
Police are analysing CCTV footage collected from nearby buildings and other locations to identify the suspect, said Hatirjheel Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Asaduzzaman.
According to the case statement, Asif was at his office around 4:50am yesterday when he heard a loud noise from downstairs. He went to the parking area and found the glass of the rear right-side door of his car shattered.
He then returned to his office and reviewed CCTV footage.
The complaint states that a man got out of a CNG-run auto-rickshaw that had approached via the road beneath the flyover from Moghbazar towards Wireless Gate. The man walked to the parking area in front of Bishal Centre and fired at the glass of the rear right-side door of Asif's car.
The man then fled the scene in the auto-rickshaw, according to the complaint.
Asif estimated the damage caused by the broken window at around Tk20,000.
DMP Tejgaon Division Deputy Commissioner Ibne Mizan said the shooter had yet to be identified.
"CCTV footage has been collected from the scene and nearby buildings and locations. The footage is being analysed. There has been no notable progress so far," he said.
