Former US Priest Found Guilty and Sentenced in June
A former Catholic priest who served in Louisiana and Texas in the United States of America was in June this year sentenced to 99 years in prison after being convicted of three counts of sexual assault.
Father ANTHONY ODIONG was sentenced on 2nd June after a jury in McLennan County, Texas, found him guilty on 29th May, according to local media reports.
ODIONG previously served at Baylor University’s St. Peter’s Catholic Student Center in Waco, Texas, from 2007 to 2012, before serving in Luling, Louisiana, between 2015 and 2023.
Prosecutors told the court that ODIONG used his position as a priest to facilitate the offences.
He was arrested in July 2024 in Ave Maria, Florida, following an investigation into allegations of sexual assault.
ODIONG was subsequently extradited to Texas, where he was held on a 2.5-million-dollar bond after authorities considered him a significant flight risk.
