Oct. 23—CLEMSON — The Tigers just added another player to their roster with 10 days until the 2026-2027 season begins.
Clemson women's basketball guard Mia Moore has been granted a sixth year of eligibility, per a release from the team.
Moore had been in the middle of a lawsuit against the NCAA seeking an additional year of eligibility, with the NCAA submitting a memo in opposition to Pickens County Court just 10 days ago on Oct. 13. However, The Post and Courier confirmed Moore's eligibility was granted by the NCAA itself, not by a judge's ruling.
An All-American honorable mention and All-ACC second-teamer in 2025-2026, Moore sued the NCAA for a sixth season after redshirting with Mississippi State in 2021-2022 and playing four games the following year. The motion filed in Moore's case claims she appeared in games during the 2022-2023 season despite dealing with a nerve injury and claims "(Moore) had told her athletic trainer that she did not feel ready to play."
The NCAA argued that Moore was not eligible for a waiver if she was cleared to compete by her team.
Fellow Clemson women's basketball player Taylor Johnson-Matthews is also suing the NCAA for another season. A hearing was scheduled for Oct. 16, but both parties agreed to move it back to a later date.
Poppie said Moore and Johnson-Matthews have been around the team all summer and became consistent participants in practice within the last few weeks. He added Clemson wouldn't fill its final two roster spots with anyone else besides the potential returning pair.
"We're gonna make sure Mia Moore and Taylor Johnson-Matthews are taken care of," he said. "We have enough scholarships in the sense of how this works, and we shift into (graduate assistant roles), so I don't know. But we're gonna make sure that they're taken care of."
The Tigers went 21-12 (11-7 ACC) in 2025-2026 and made the NCAA Tournament as an eight seed, losing 71-67 in the first round to Southern California in overtime. It was a season of successes that had long evaded Clemson: First tournament appearance since 2019, first 21-win season since 2000-2001 and first season since 1998-1999 with 11 conference wins.
Clemson will begin the season at home vs. Radford on Nov. 2 at noon.
