AWEIL—Police in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State have arrested an 18-year-old woman after allegedly stabbing her 40-year-old mother-in-law to death following a domestic dispute in Abuu village, Madhol Payam, Aweil East County.
Police spokesperson Madut Ngong Aleu told Sudans Post that the incident occurred on Sunday, October 11, after a quarrel between the woman, identified as Adhel Majak Ngor, and her mother-in-law, Abak Mawein Dhel.
Ngong said the dispute began when the mother-in-law questioned her daughter-in-law about winnowing sorghum and selling it.
“What happened is that the woman, who is aged 18, had a quarrel with her mother-in-law after she questioned the young woman as to why she winnows the sorghum and sells it away. On hearing that, the young woman picked up a knife and stabbed her mother-in-law in the stomach, leading to her immediate death,” he said.
The police spokesperson said the suspect had been detained in connection with the alleged killing, which he described as a family dispute that escalated into violence.
He urged residents to avoid using violence to settle domestic and community disputes, particularly when tensions rise.
Ngong said the suspect would be brought before a court to face the legal process.
