Aaron Sorkin has hailed Jeremy Strong as "the best American actor under 50".
The 45-year-old actor stars alongside Mikey Madison, Jeremy Allen White, Bill Burr, Wunmi Mosaku, Betty Gilpin, and Billy Magnussen in The Social Reckoning, the follow-up to 2010's The Social Network, and the acclaimed director has heaped praise on Jeremy.
Aaron, 65, told The Independent: "I think [Strong] is the best American actor under 50 that there is."
Aaron explained that the collaboration with Jeremy "worked great".
The director said: "He’s phenomenal in the movie. I didn’t ever feel like he was straining at the leash to improvise or anything."
Aaron aspired to become an actor during his younger years, and he now regrets taking so long to turn his attention to directing.
The acclaimed filmmaker shared: "I wish I had started [directing] earlier. Because it’s agonising, looking back and thinking, ‘Next time I’ll know to do this, [or] not to do that.’ All I want when I’m done shooting a movie is to go back and shoot it again."
Jeremy plays Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, in The Social Reckoning. But Aaron recently explained that the billionaire businessman is "not a villain" in the movie.
Aaron - who wrote and directed The Social Reckoning - explained to Variety: "The character of Mark Zuckerberg has a different function in this film than he did in The Social Network.
"He was an antihero, but he was the protagonist in The Social Network, and Frances Haugen is the protagonist in The Social Reckoning. But both Jeremy and I agreed that Mark is not a villain; he’s an antihero, which is to say, his goal is good, right? He just wants to connect people. That’s good, but his methods have become perverted along the way.
"I know that when I’m writing an antihero, you can’t judge the character. You have to write the character as if they’re making their case to God why they should be allowed into heaven.
"Jeremy felt the same way about playing the character. He was Mark Zuckerberg’s biggest defender from the beginning — before he started shooting, during his shooting, and afterward.
"I didn’t read it, but I know that he wrote a letter to Mark, letting him know that he planned on playing the part respectfully and in Mark’s defence."
