(ANSA) - ROMA, 13 OTT - The Italian Ambassador to Ukraine, Carlo Formosa, met with the Chairman of the Management Board of Ukrenergo, Vitalii Zaichenko, to take stock of the situation of the Ukrainian power system and the sector’s main needs ahead of winter.
The discussion focused on the consequences of damage to power generation facilities and transmission grids, which have already led to scheduled power outages in various regions of the country. Particular attention was given to the most urgent needs, ranging from the availability of transformers and high-voltage equipment to specialized repair vehicles, as well as strengthening the protection of critical infrastructure.
“Ukraine, and in particular the capital Kyiv, is preparing to face a particularly difficult winter, following the severe destruction caused by Russian bombardments of the country’s energy infrastructure. In this context, ensuring the continuity of energy supply is essential to sustaining the resilience and well-being of the civilian population in the coming months,” Ambassador Formosa stated.
During the meeting, mention was also made of the support Italy has provided to Ukraine’s energy sector since the start of the war, through the supply of equipment and materials for the restoration of damaged infrastructure and a contribution of nearly 23 million euros to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund.
