The FPGBA SP, a new FPGA-based retro gaming handheld from Taki Udon, has been shown running Pokémon, with the developer stating that it supports original Game Boy Advance cartridges. The folding console has a target price of around $100, substantially below the $239.99 listed price of the Analogue Pocket.
Retro gaming hardware developer Taki Udon has demonstrated a new handheld designed to support original Nintendo Game Boy Advance cartridges.
Known as the FPGBA SP, the device uses field-programmable gate array (FPGA) technology rather than relying solely on conventional software emulation. Its clamshell design takes inspiration from Nintendo's Game Boy Advance SP, while the prototype features a transparent-blue casing.
In footage shared by the developer on 12 October, the handheld is shown running a Pokémon game.
Original cartridges and modern connectivity
The FPGBA SP is being designed to support physical Game Boy Advance cartridges alongside games stored on an SD card. According to Taki Udon, cartridges run natively rather than being copied into a software emulator.
As also reported by Time Extension, the developer has mentioned USB-C output, although full connectivity specifications have not yet been detailed.

Price target and availability
At around $100, the FPGBA SP would be considerably cheaper than the Analogue Pocket, which is listed at $239.99. However, Taki Udon's proposed price remains a development target rather than a confirmed retail figure. Final specifications, availability and a release date have yet to be announced.
