Organisers of the Ajayi Elebire Elite Basketball Camp have announced that preparations are in top gear for the fifth edition of the annual basketball development programme.
The founder of the camp and former international basketball player, Olalekan Ajayi, disclosed that the event would return to Ado-Ekiti, the capital of Ekiti State, for the second consecutive year, following the success of last year’s edition.
The camp, established in honour of his late father, Babatunde Elebire Ajayi, will begin with a screening exercise in Lagos on Monday, October 19, before participants and coaches travel to Ado-Ekiti the following day.
Ajayi expressed confidence that this year’s edition would be bigger and better, with foreign coaches expected to arrive in Nigeria ahead of the screening exercise.
“I can bet you that we are going to be having a bigger and better camping this time around,” he said.
“The foreign coaches are going to be arriving in Nigeria on Monday and will head straight to the Lagos screening to select the best players from Lagos and other states within the vicinity before proceeding to Ado-Ekiti.”
He added that the organisers were looking forward to building on the achievements of the previous edition, during which 10 players were awarded scholarships.
“Last edition, we gave out scholarships to 10 players, and we are waiting for the coaches to arrive and see how many will be making it this time around,” Ajayi said.
Following the Lagos screening on October 19, selected players and the coaching crew will depart for Ado-Ekiti on October 20, with the training camp scheduled to run from October 21 to 23.
The programme will climax with an All-Stars game on October 23, while participants are expected to depart on October 24.
