Lucid’s European robotaxi deal now has a driver. Bolt announced today that its fleet of at least 25,000 autonomous Lucid vehicles will run Nvidia’s Alpamayo Stack self-driving software, starting with a data-collection program in Madrid in 2027.
That gives Lucid two robotaxi customers on two different autonomy systems: Nuro’s software for Uber’s Gravity robotaxis in the US, and now Nvidia’s for Bolt in Europe.
The piece missing from September
When Lucid and Bolt announced the 25,000-vehicle deal last month, nobody said who would write the driving software. The vehicles were to be built around Nvidia Hyperion, a reference design for compute and sensors, which isn’t a self-driving system on its own. Bolt said it would bring in autonomous-driving partners later.
It picked Nvidia again. Alpamayo Stack is Nvidia’s full-stack driving software, which the company describes as “reasoning AI” combined with classical perception and planning, running on Hyperion with its Halos safety tools on top. The two will tune the software for European driving, and Lucid is only the first automaker Bolt plans to put it in.
Madrid comes first, in 2027. The cars there won’t carry riders at the start. Their job is to collect real-world driving data so Bolt and Nvidia can develop and validate the software, and even that still needs regulatory approval. Germany and France are named as the next key markets.
Jevgeni Kabanov, Bolt’s president and head of autonomous driving, said the Region of Madrid is “pioneering a structured framework for commercial autonomous mobility.” On Lucid’s side, the work runs through Lucid Technologies. Its president, Kay Stepper, called the “launch of data collection next year” one of “the first steps” toward autonomous mobility in Europe.
Which Lucid, and when?
Bolt didn’t say which Lucid model goes to Madrid.
The September deal was designed around Lucid’s upcoming Midsize platform, the same platform whose first vehicle, the Cosmos, got pushed to 2027 in Lucid’s August operating reset, “most likely the second half.” If the purpose-built vehicle isn’t ready in time, Madrid’s first data-collection cars would have to be existing Gravity or Air vehicles.
There’s also no date for anyone riding without a driver. Data collection is step one.
Lucid’s robotaxi math
Add up both programs and Lucid has a lot of robotaxis on order, at least on paper. Uber’s program with Lucid and Nuro now calls for at least 35,000 Gravity vehicles globally, up from Uber’s original commitment to 20,000. Bolt adds at least 25,000. That’s 60,000 vehicles.
For scale, Lucid delivered 15,841 vehicles in all of 2025 and 10,852 in the first nine months of 2026. Those robotaxi commitments equal almost four years of Lucid’s current deliveries.
The Uber program is further along, but it isn’t open to the public yet. Uber employees have been taking test rides in Gravity robotaxis in San Francisco since April, with a safety operator behind the wheel. The public Bay Area launch is still promised for 2026, with Houston to follow in mid-2027.
Bolt is also hedging. It runs a separate track with Pony.ai and Stellantis, which announced a pilot in Luxembourg in June, and it’s targeting 100,000 autonomous vehicles on its platform across Europe and the wider UNECE region by 2035.
As for Nvidia, it has spent years selling chips and sensor reference designs to automakers. With Alpamayo Stack, it’s now selling the driver too, which puts it up against Nuro, Waymo, and Tesla’s software.
