Zimbabwe now has its first skatepark, and footage of it is turning heads online. A video posted to Facebook on 8 October 2026 showed a group of friends skating and rollerblading through Samkele Park in Victoria Falls, with the sun-drenched clip quickly catching the attention of Zimbabweans near and far.

Filmed in an action-cam style, the video captured the energy of the outdoor space, with grassy lawns, wooden boardwalks, and a proper skate ramp all visible in the background. The caption described the park as offering far more than just skating, including shaded green areas, a children's playground, an outdoor exercise gym, and toilet facilities.

A community space for everyone

What struck many viewers was not just the skate ramp itself, but the broader vision behind Samkele Park. For a country where skating has historically meant dodging traffic on public roads, the facility represents something meaningful. The park appears to be a fully developed recreational space designed to serve people of all ages, from children on the playground to adults seeking a place to exercise or unwind under the trees.

One commenter, Candy Mkhwananzi, captured the feeling well, noting that skating on the road while watching out for cars used to make it far less enjoyable.
