The Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture has said it is working with the Fisheries Commission, Ghana Navy, Ghana Maritime Authority and Marine Police alongside coastal fishing communities, to locate a missing fishing canoe and its seven crew members.
The canoe, Second Chance, reportedly departed the Sekondi Fishing Harbour on October 9, 2026, for a fishing expedition offshore Axim but has yet to return.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, October 21, the Ministry expressed concern over the disappearance and extended its sympathies to the families of the missing crew members.
The Ministry has urged fishing vessels and coastal communities, particularly along the eastern coastline, to remain vigilant and immediately report any information that could help locate the seven fishers.
The Ministry said every effort must be made to locate the fishers and bring them home safely.
"Our thoughts are with the families of the missing fishers during this difficult period. Every effort must be made to locate the seven crew members and bring them home safely," the Ministry noted.
It also reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening safety at sea, emergency communication and coordination among maritime search and rescue agencies to better protect Ghanaian fishers.
