Olhão’s changing face is being explored through photography in a new exhibition bringing together historic images of the city and present-day recreations taken by young local residents.
Entitled “Olhão antes e depois” – “Olhão before and after”, the exhibition opened last Saturday and is being shown simultaneously at four locations across the municipality.

By placing old photographs alongside contemporary versions of the same scenes, the project invites visitors to see what has changed – and what has remained – in Olhão’s streets, buildings and identity over the years.
Curated by Luís Torres, the exhibition forms part of celebrations marking the bicentenary of Olhão Council and aims to highlight the city’s heritage, collective memory and the creativity of younger generations.

The exhibition can be visited until November 13 at the Olhão Municipal Markets, Ria Shopping, Dr. Francisco Fernandes Lopes Secondary School and Casa Municipal da Juventude Hugo Charrão, during each venue’s usual opening hours.
Organisers describe the exhibition as an opportunity to revisit the past while looking at the city as it exists today, using different generations and their photographs to tell Olhão’s story.
