The government has introduced an automated system to ensure transparency in doctors' transfers and postings in the health sector, Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Husain said today (15 October).
As part of the initiative, the ministry issued posting orders for 87 doctors through automated software that considers their merit, qualifications and workplace preferences.
"There will be no scope for personal connections, political considerations or any other form of influence," the health minister said, adding that the initiative had been introduced under the prime minister's specific instructions.
He said the government would evaluate the system's effectiveness before gradually bringing the entire health ministry under automation.
State Minister Dr MA Muhit said around 40,000 doctors currently work under the ministry. In the past, particularly under the previous government, transfers and postings had been affected by politicisation, corruption and irregularities, he added.
The automated system is part of the government's efforts to improve transparency in health administration and eliminate lobbying and corruption, he said.
Under the system, software determines doctors' postings based on their Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) batch merit rankings, assessment scores against various criteria and lists of preferred workplaces.
Citing an example, Dr Muhit said Gazi Jahangir Hossain, who received the first posting order, scored 81.65 out of 100 under the assessment matrix and was assigned to his first-choice workplace, Bandar Upazila Health Complex.
The state minister said posting orders for a specified number of doctors had been issued on the first day, with plans to bring all transfer and posting activities across the health sector under full automation in phases.
