European leaders are expected to adopt conclusions on 16 October stating that Russia is the root cause of the drone attacks in the Black Sea.
According to a document obtained by the Bulgarian National Radio, attacks on civilian shipping, merchant and industrial vessels, including the recent serious incidents in the exclusive economic zones of Bulgaria and Romania in the Black Sea, constitute a significant violation of international law and maritime law.
“The European Council reaffirms the strategic importance of security, stability and freedom of navigation in the Black Sea. By targeting Ukraine’s agricultural infrastructure, its ports on the Black Sea and the Danube, border crossings, export facilities and vessels, as well as by blocking shipping routes and destroying grain storage facilities, Russia is once again weaponising food and undermining global food security, particularly in Africa, Asia and the Middle East”, the document states.
It also highlights the importance of measures aimed at further strengthening the EU–Ukraine Solidarity Lanes, reports Angelina Piskova, BNR’s correspondent in Brussels.
