Three FIRs have been registered against JD(U) MLA Anant Singh, Jan Suraaj Party candidate Anuj Singh and others in Bihar over alleged violations of election rules during a roadshow featuring hundreds of vehicles and JCB machines showering flower petals, police said.
The cases relate to a roadshow held on October 18 in the Mokama Assembly constituency of Patna district, ahead of polling for eight Bihar Legislative Council seats on October 23. Police alleged that the procession involved more vehicles than permitted, with sirens sounded on several vehicles, while the deployment of JCB machines to shower flowers disrupted normal law and order.
Barh Sub-Divisional Police Officer Ram Krishna told the Press Trust of India (PTI) that three FIRs had been registered over the alleged violations at Barh and Mokama police stations.
“JCB machines were also deployed at multiple locations in Barh town to shower flower petals, adversely affecting normal law and order. This was a clear violation of the election Model Code of Conduct. A total of three FIRs have been registered against the MLA, Anuj Singh and others in this regard,” Ram Krishna told PTI.
ANANT SINGH CAMPAIGNS FOR JAN SURAAJ CANDIDATE
The roadshow comes amid a political dispute involving Anant Singh, who represents Mokama as a JD(U) MLA but has been campaigning for Jan Suraaj Party candidate Anuj Singh in the Patna Graduates' constituency.
Anant Singh has vowed to ensure the defeat of JD(U) MLC Neeraj Kumar, who is seeking re-election from the seat.
Explaining his opposition to Neeraj Kumar, Anant Singh had recently said, “I do not know what the party line is in this matter. The fact remains that he has opposed me on so many occasions. I must pay him back in the same coin.”
The October 18 procession was taken out in support of Anuj Singh as campaigning continued for the biennial elections to the Bihar Legislative Council.
POLLING ON OCTOBER 23, COUNTING ON OCTOBER 27
Polling for the eight Bihar Legislative Council constituencies will take place from 8 am to 4 pm on October 23, while counting is scheduled for October 27.
The constituencies going to polls are Patna Graduates', Darbhanga Graduates', Tirhut Graduates', Kosi Graduates', Patna Teachers', Darbhanga Teachers', Tirhut Teachers' and Saran Teachers'.
The FIRs have been registered over alleged violations during the campaigning period. The allegations against Anant Singh, Anuj Singh and the other accused remain subject to investigation.
