JASIN: Residents of Sungai Rambai have welcomed the announcement of a new police station in the area under Budget 2027, bringing relief after years of waiting for a permanent facility at Melaka’s southern gateway.
The station has been operating temporarily at the Sungai Rambai State Constituency Development and Coordination Committee (Japerun) office since its original premises were demolished.
Sungai Rambai native Siti Nabiha Mohd Zamberi, 33, said the allocation announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim during the Budget 2027 presentation last Friday was welcome news, particularly amid rapid housing development in the area.
“I am grateful for the construction of a new police station. It is important for the safety of residents and visitors,” said the housewife, who lives in Kampung Parit Penghulu.
She said Sungai Rambai, which lies on the border between two states and serves as a gateway for tourism and business, needed balanced development, including improved security to give investors and visitors greater confidence.
Private-sector executive Kew Li Wen, 33, said the new station showed that the government was giving due attention to the safety of communities in rural and border areas.
She hoped construction would begin soon so that police personnel could provide better services from more suitable facilities.
Sungai Rambai assemblyman Datuk Siti Faizah Abdul Azis said the new station was long overdue, as police had been operating from temporary premises at the Japerun office since their former station along the old Melaka-Muar Road was demolished.
She said a dedicated building would improve the organisation of police duties and provide secure storage for firearms and operational equipment.
Siti Faizah said better security infrastructure was increasingly important as tourism activities expanded, including the upgrading of Dataran Riverside and plans to introduce sightseeing boat services.
Under Budget 2027, the government also announced new police stations in Tanjung Malim, Perak, and Batu Lintang, Sri Aman, Sarawak.
