A little texture goes a long way. From plush faux-fur trims to oversized shearling collars, these are the coats and jackets making every outfit cosier.
I am a firm believer that a good coat can fix almost anything. Running late? Good coat. Wearing the same jeans for the third day in a row? Good coat. Can’t be bothered to think about what to wear but would still quite like to look as though you’ve made an effort? You know the answer. And while there’s certainly a time and place for a sensible trench coat, this winter I’m finding myself drawn to something with a little more personality. And, preferably, a lot more tactility. I’m talking, of course, about the fuzzy-collar jacket. Part practical outerwear, part fabulous finishing touch, it’s textured and makes any outfit look like a deliberate fashion decision.
Fashion’s fascination with a furry collar is hardly a recent development. From the plush, glamorous coats of the 1920s to the gloriously shaggy Penny Lane styles of the 1970s, we’ve been finding excuses to wrap ourselves in something fluffy for the better part of a century. But if you thought the fuzzy collar belonged exclusively to the likes of Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe, think again.
For autumn/winter 2026, designers were positively obsessed with the stuff. At Acne Studios, oversized, shaggy collars brought a dose of drama to belted leather jackets and slouchy tailoring, while Burberry paired sumptuous furry trims with heritage checks and glossy outerwear. Over at Blumarine, plush black collars added a glamorous finishing touch to abbreviated jackets, while Calvin Klein Collection went big on exaggerated, fuzzy proportions. Fendi, meanwhile, offered everything from patchwork textures to sleek, fur-trimmed coats. The takeaway? The bigger and fluffier the collar, the better.
And it’s not just the catwalks making a case for a little fluff: Alexa Chung, Kate Moss and Zoë Kravitz have all demonstrated the appeal of vintage-inspired, fur-trimmed outerwear. There’s something wonderfully nonchalant about the whole thing. A fuzzy collar suggests you’ve made an effort, without looking as though you’ve tried terribly hard. My favourite kind of dressing.
The beauty of it, of course, is that you needn’t do very much else. A pair of jeans, a good knit and your favourite boots will do nicely. Let the collar have its moment. And if it happens to keep your neck warm in the process? Even better.
So, whether you’re after a leather jacket with a little extra oomph, a plush-trimmed wool coat or something that wouldn’t look out of place in a particularly fabulous vintage shop, I’ve done the digging for you. Here are nine fuzzy-collar jackets worth getting very excited about.
Best fuzzy-collar jackets and coats
Marks & Spencer faux fur trim flight bomber jacket
M&S has been having quite the fashion moment, and this khaki bomber is further proof that the high street favourite knows exactly what it’s doing. Debuted as part of its London Fashion Week collection celebrating 100 years of fashion, it’s all about the details: a cropped, padded silhouette, relaxed shoulders and a fabulous detachable faux-fur collar.
Jigsaw wool faux fur trim coat
If you’re after something that feels expensive and will earn its keep in your wardrobe for years to come, Jigsaw has delivered. The longline silhouette is wonderfully elegant, while that contrasting fluffy collar adds just the right amount of drama. Better still, it’s detachable, meaning you essentially get two coats in one.
Aligne George faux fur collar wrap coat
This grey wrap coat has all the makings of a forever piece, from the beautifully oversized silhouette to the waist-cinching belt and sumptuous faux-fur collar. It looks and feels so elevated, even if you’re only popping out for a coffee. The collar is detachable, too, making it just as useful for those days when you’re in a more minimalist mood.
Ba&sh Naho coat
Trust the French to make a statement coat feel completely effortless. Ba&sh’s Naho is an investment piece that deserves pride of place in your wardrobe, made from 100% lamb’s leather in a rich brown tone. A little indulgent? Perhaps. But a coat you’ll look forward to wearing every winter? Absolutely.
Cos shearling-collar wool long coat
If you prefer your collars of the shearling variety, Cos has you covered. Made from Italian-mill wool with genuine shearling, the brand has given the classic black wool coat a rather lovely upgrade courtesy of an oversized, curly collar.
Sister Jane Dream Sculpture double-breasted coat
Not one for the wallflowers and all the better for it. Sister Jane has taken the classic double-breasted coat and given it a wonderfully makeover, complete with a rich bordeaux-red finish and contrasting fluffy collar and cuffs.
Next shower-resistant faux fur collar padded bomber jacket
For those days when the British weather has other ideas about your carefully planned outfit, this little number from Next is a rather clever compromise. The camel-coloured padded bomber comes with a gloriously fluffy collar, adding a little polish to an otherwise practical jacket. It’s shower-resistant, too, which is always welcome.
Levi’s Billie warm coat
You can always count on Levi’s to deliver a little Americana-inspired charm. The brown plaid pattern and contrasting faux-fur collar feel very nostalgic. Wear it with your favourite jeans (Levi’s, naturally) and a cherry red cardigan.
Mango wool-blend coat with detachable fur lining
Mango really does know its way around a good jacket, doesn’t it? This khaki number has all the makings of a vintage treasure, from its oversized chocolate-brown fuzzy collar to those wonderfully fluffy cuffs.
