Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich will miss Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League clash against Arsenal following the death of his father, Berthold Kimmich.
The German club confirmed that the 31-year-old was unavailable for the match at the Allianz Arena because of a bereavement in his immediate family.
In a statement published on its official X account on Wednesday, Bayern said: “Due to a passing in his immediate family, Joshua Kimmich is not in the squad today for the match against Arsenal.
“On behalf of the family, we ask that his privacy and grief be respected, and that further inquiries and reporting be refrained from.”
The club also extended its deepest condolences to Kimmich and his loved ones, adding that the entire Bayern Munich family stood with him during the difficult period.
Kimmich, who serves as Bayern’s vice-captain, had missed Tuesday’s final training session, with his absence initially attributed to personal reasons.
