With the isolated rainfall started drenching the twin towns of Tirunelveli and Palayamkottai, the stray cattle, which avoid resting on the moist soil, have returned to all roads, including the busy stretches to cause untold hardship to the road-users, particularly the bike riders.
Since isolated rainfall to herald the arrival of Northeast monsoon has already started, the damp or water stagnant empty grounds, the resting spots of stray cattle, are empty now as these uncared for animals are roaming around or resting along the roads including the busy thoroughfares of Tirunelveli and Palayamkottai. Consequently, the road-users, particularly the bike riders are paying price of this menace.
Even though the Corporation had warned that the stray cattle would be taken to the bound and then to the goshala if the owners failed to pay the fine imposed by the urban local body, the menace continues. The raging bulls make things worse for the children, women and the senior citizens.
City Health Officer Balasubramanian said the Corporation, which is now concentrating on anti-dengue operations, will soon deploy personnel to control this problem. “The Corporation has given sufficient warnings to the dairy farmers in the past that they should keep their cattle only the designated sheds instead of allowing the animals to wander around. The Corporation will take due action to control this problem,” Dr. Balasubramanian assured.
