Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday directed officials to take measures to prevent a rise in the prices of essential commodities, citing the impact of El Niño on prices across the country.
Reviewing the performance of various departments at a Real-Time Governance Society (RTGS) meeting, Mr. Naidu asked the officials to closely monitor the prices of rice, red gram, onions, edible oil and sugar to ensure that the burden of rising prices did not fall on the consumers.
Enquiring about the sale of rice being supplied by the government through the rythu bazaars, the Chief Minister asked the officials to explore the possibility of making fine-quality rice available at subsidised prices through the rythu bazaars during festivals such as Deepavali and Sankranti. He also called for increased supplies of onion to ensure that ordinary consumers did not face any difficulty.
Mr. Naidu directed the officials to take robust measures to ensure uninterrupted power supply under all circumstances.
PM Surya Ghar target
Reviewing the implementation of the PM Surya Ghar scheme, he called for faster installation of rooftop solar panels at residential buildings.
Noting that Andhra Pradesh was currently ranked fourth nationally in the implementation of the scheme, he asked the officials to improve the State’s position. The State needed to install another nine lakh connections to meet its target, and officials were directed to prepare and implement an action plan to expedite the process.
The Chief Minister also stressed the need to ensure smooth sand supplies across the State. He called for full utilisation of technology in governance, and directed officials to promptly rectify deficiencies wherever they were identified.
Emphasising better coordination among the government departments, Mr. Naidu said concerted efforts were necessary to improve the delivery of public services.
Chief Secretary G. Sai Prasad and senior officials from various departments attended the review meeting.
