Bitcoin has rallied back towards USD 83,600 following its dip near USD 80,400, though trading indicators are light on investor sentiment. The rebound has not made a convincing recovery based on sentiment, prediction market probabilities, and exchange-traded fund (ETF) withdrawals.
Bitcoin Rebounds After Recent Selloff
The Bitcoin price hit USD 82,837 on October 9 after dropping to USD 80,427 on October 8, the lowest point since early September. The overall cryptocurrency market rose by 2.1% to reach USD 2.89 trillion. However, it was lower than the USD 3 trillion seen around one week prior.
The price range of Bitcoin on the day was USD 81,553 to USD 83,443. The bull market continued to be uncertain, as it was below the 50-period EMA on the 4-hour chart.
ETF Withdrawals Reflect Institutional Caution
The correction saw notable selling pressure on spot Bitcoin ETFs. On 8 October, USD 484.9 million was withdrawn, and USD 244 million was withdrawn again on 9 October. The net outflows of these sessions amounted to about USD 728.9 million.
Even if retail traders start buying Bitcoin after it has declined, it can lead to a decrease in demand because of institutional selling. Meanwhile, the 10-year Treasury yield has increased to 5.32%, adding to the concerns around borrowing rates and demand for riskier assets.
Fear Index and Prediction Markets Signal Uncertainty
The Crypto Fear & Greed Index fell from 71 to 56, switching from a state of greed to a neutral state on October 2. Traders predicted that Bitcoin would drop below the USD 80,000 mark in October with a probability of 67%, according to Myriad.
The probability of touching USD 77,500 was estimated at 40%, and at USD 75,000, at 24%. These are only probabilities and not guarantees. Trading leveraged futures can also cause dramatic swings in trades during slow trading hours.
Technical Indicators Identify Important Levels
The Average Directional Index (ADX) climbed to 37.9, higher than the widely followed level of 25. However, positive movement remained higher than negative directional movement, indicating that the momentum was not completely lost.
Bitwise Europe's Luke Dins pointed to USD 83,000 as an important price level, citing it as a connection to average ETF entry levels and an earlier breakout area. A continued recovery may result in USD 84,433 coming into view, with USD 87,354 a higher resistance level.
Final Thoughts
Bitcoin has yet to recover as it is susceptible to selling pressure and macroeconomic signals. More convincing signs of a durable recovery would be as long as there are more inflows into the ETFs, higher sentiment, and continued gains above resistance.
