The Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Mahama Ayariga, has inaugurated a steering committee for the Accra Green and Clean City Initiative to strengthen efforts to improve sanitation and promote environmental sustainability in the capital.
In a post on Friday, October 16, the Minister said achieving a cleaner Accra would require collective commitment, effective coordination and sustained action beyond government efforts.
“A cleaner Accra requires more than good intentions; it requires collective commitment, effective coordination, and sustained action,” the Minister stated.
The initiative is expected to bring together public institutions, communities and citizens to promote better sanitation practices and create a healthier environment.
The Minister stressed that responsibility for keeping Accra clean should not rest solely with government, calling for active participation from all sections of society.
Through the initiative, the government aims to strengthen collaboration and encourage shared responsibility for maintaining a cleaner, greener and more environmentally sustainable capital.
