Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, the adaptation of the Indian epic is planned as a two-part film. The first instalment is scheduled to release during Diwali 2026, while the second part is expected to arrive during Diwali 2027.
Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi star in the role of Lord Rama and Sita, respectively. The film also features Ravi Dubey as Lakshmana. Yash takes on the role of Ravana, with Sunny Deol as Hanuman, Rakul Preet Singh as Surpanakha and Lara Dutta as Kaikeyi. Television’s Ram Arun Govil plays Dashrath in the film.
Ramayana is reportedly being made on a budget of around Rs 4,000 crore, with Oscar-winning composer Hans Zimmer and AR Rahman handling the music. DNEG and Prime Focus are also among the teams working on its visual effects.
The trailer, released earlier, had already given audiences a glimpse of the film’s larger world and its sprawling cast.
