Retail chain Shwapno has decided to gift a cow to the family of two young sisters, Israt and Roza Moni, who were found alone beside a road in Brahmanpara, Cumilla, to help establish a sustainable source of income.
The initiative aims to support the children's upbringing and help their family earn a regular income through livestock rearing and milk sales, according to the press release.
On the afternoon of 11 October, local residents found five-year-old Israt and her one-and-a-half-year-old sister, Roza Moni, crying beside a road near Rose Garden Model School in Dakshin Bazar, Brahmanpara upazila.
According to Israt, their mother had brought them there on the pretext of buying them chips and then left. The children waited for a long time, but their mother did not return.
Their identities were later established through photographs and videos circulated on social media. After learning about the incident, a paternal aunt arrived and took the children into her care with assistance from local residents.
Shwapno decided to support the family after learning about the children's circumstances. The company said the cow was intended to provide a continuing source of income and help create a more secure future for the sisters.
Shwapno said supporting vulnerable members of society and creating opportunities for self-reliance were important aspects of its corporate social responsibility alongside its business operations.
The company also highlighted the importance of supporting families to ensure children's safety and wellbeing. Through the initiative, it hopes to bring a positive and lasting change to the family's livelihood.
