(ANSA) - RABAT, OCT. 16 — Leonardo’s grandfather’s journey to Morocco is the focal point of the book presentation for “Genia da Vinci,” which will take place in the Garibaldi Hall of the Italian Consulate in Casablanca on October 20 at 6:00 p.m. The meeting with the authors, Alessandro Vezzosi and Agnese Sabato, is part of the events for the 26th Week of the Italian Language in the World, scheduled for October 19–25. The theme of this year’s edition is “Brilliant Language: Conceiving, Designing, and Creating with Italian.” The presentation of ‘Genia da Vinci’ will be an opportunity to recount and highlight an episode described in the book: in 1402, Leonardo’s grandfather, Ser Antonio di Ser Piero, traveled to Morocco—first to Alcudia, a town near present-day Nador, and then to Fes—for business purposes, documenting the stages of his journey and the goods he purchased in a letter dated May 1, 1402, which was discovered by Alessandro Vezzosi.
The Consulate’s press release states: “That man from the 15th century, who 50 years later registered the birth of his grandson Leonardo, 90 years before Columbus landed in America, undertook a journey to Morocco—a precursor to the trips that many of our entrepreneurs make today. And just as today, in 1402 as well, Leonardo’s grandfather was welcomed with great friendship and hospitality.” (ANSA).
