Global travellers and young professionals looking for international exposure have received exciting news regarding Australian entry permits. Australia's Department of Home Affairs confirmed that citizens from 23 selected nations currently have active application caps under the Work and Holiday Subclass 462 visa programme. The annual scheme provides an avenue for eligible passport holders to live, work, and explore the country while supporting short-term employment needs.

Understanding the subclass 462 visa allocation

The Work and Holiday visa programme operates on a strictly managed yearly cycle, opening on 2 July each programme year with specific place limits assigned to each participating country. As reported by Briefly News' sister publication Legit.ng, the cap system applies exclusively to first-time applicants, while those applying for their second or third Work and Holiday visa are exempt from these numerical restrictions.

Global partner countries with active application slots

The current list of countries with active application caps features a diverse mix of global partners, ranging from Spain, Argentina, and Chile—each allocated 3,400 places—to Singapore and Israel with 2,500 places each. Other eligible nations include Malaysia, Poland, Peru, Uruguay, Austria, Portugal, and Thailand, giving young adventure seekers around the world a chance to secure temporary residency.

Department officials noted that cap statuses remain dynamic and can shift between open, paused, or closed depending on application volumes throughout the year. Prospective applicants from countries where caps are currently paused are encouraged to keep a close watch on official updates, as allocations can reopen before the next official cycle begins.
