Places to Stay
Where to stay in this Caribbean hot spot for a laid-back island escape.

I still remember the first time I saw the water in Turks and Caicos—that almost unreal shade of turquoise that pictures never quite capture. Several trips later, it still gets me. I’ve spent most of my time in this archipelago on the island of Providenciales, staying along Grace Bay but exploring well beyond it, from snorkeling off Smith’s Reef to driving past the brilliant blue water of Chalk Sound. Grace Bay may get most of the attention, with its luxury resorts, restaurants, and seemingly endless stretch of sand, but part of the appeal of Turks and Caicos is how quickly things quiet down once you leave it behind.
For all its five-star resorts and enviable villas, Turks and Caicos can also be a wonderfully easy place to settle in and stay awhile at a vacation rental or Airbnb. Having your own space means leisurely mornings, sandy swimsuits tossed straight into the washing machine, and long lingering nights spent sipping a rum punch. And whether that home base is on Providenciales or one of the quieter islands beyond it, that extraordinary water is rarely far from view. Read on for my favorite vacation rentals and Airbnbs in Turks and Caicos for a Caribbean island escape you aren’t soon to forget.

Secluded stay for 12 at Three Mary Cays
Number of guests: 12
Bed and bath: 5 bedrooms, 6 baths
Why we love it: Private pool, beachfront setting, paddleboardsVilla Karma is the kind of place that makes the extra hop to North Caicos feel worthwhile. Set directly on the beach at Three Mary Cays, the five-bedroom house looks out over the water from its open living spaces, where sliding glass doors can be pulled back to blur the line between indoors and out. Each bedroom has its own en suite bathroom, making the house particularly well-suited for a group of couples or a multigenerational family. Outside, there’s a private pool, beach chairs, and paddleboards for getting onto the water, but privacy may be the biggest luxury here. North Caicos sees a fraction of the development of Providenciales, and an SUV or Jeep is required to reach the house—a good indication that this is a stay for travelers who really do want to get away from it all.
Location: Three Mary Cays, North Caicos
Things to do nearby: Three Mary Cays, Whitby Beach, Wade’s Green PlantationTropical cottage near Smith's Reef
Number of guests: 3
Bed and bath: 1 bedroom, 1 bath
Why we love it: Private freshwater pool, tropical garden, direct beach pathHidden among tropical gardens one lot back from Grace Bay Beach, Nutmeg Cottage feels surprisingly secluded for its Turtle Cove location. French doors lead directly from the king bedroom to a private freshwater pool, while a hammock tucked beneath a thatched roof and a raised gazebo offer two more places to disappear with a book—or a sunset cocktail. A private path leads straight to the beach at Smith’s Reef, where some of the island’s best snorkeling begins just offshore. Back inside, the spacious en suite bathroom has dual sinks and a large walk-in shower. When dinner calls, six restaurants around Turtle Cove Marina are close enough to reach on foot.

Spacious townhome steps from Grace Bay
Number of guests: 6
Bed and bath: 3 bedrooms, 4 baths
Why we love it: Walking distance to the beach, spacious layout, beach gear includedMeasuring 2,500 square feet spread across two levels, this Grace Bay townhome has plenty of breathing room plus three queen bedrooms, four bathrooms, and multiple balconies for slipping away from your group. The location is decidedly lively rather than secluded: Grace Bay Beach is about a two-minute walk away, and the restaurants and shops of Regent Village are just as easy to get to. There’s no pool, but beach chairs, an umbrella, and a cooler are provided for days on the sand. For travelers who want more of a resort-style experience, concierge services can add on everything from pre-arrival groceries and housekeeping to a private chef, butler, spa treatments, and transportation for an additional fee.
Location: Grace Bay, Providenciales
Things to do nearby: Regent Village, Salt Mills Plaza, Princess Alexandra National ParkLuxury villa with resort-like amenities
Number of guests: 2
Bed and bath: 1 bedroom, 1 bath
Why we love it: Beach access, pool, kayaks, bikesThis two-story hideaway near Turtle Cove feels more like a tiny townhouse than a typical one-bedroom condo. The king bedroom is tucked upstairs, giving the sleeping space some separation from the living area below, and balconies on both levels provide somewhere to catch the breeze. The interiors are unfussy and comfortable, but the real advantage is how little you need to arrange once you arrive. Bikes, kayaks, paddleboards, and snorkeling equipment come with the rental, and there’s a shared pool and fitness room back at the property. Smith’s Reef is close enough to make snorkeling an easy part of the day rather than an excursion, while Turtle Cove Marina is nearby when dinner calls. It’s an appealing setup for one or two travelers who want the freedom of a private rental without giving up the toys and shared amenities often found at a resort.

Gorgeous condo at The Somerset resort
Number of guests: 6
Bed and bath: 2 bedrooms, 2 baths
Why we love it: Beachfront resort, two pools, complimentary water sportsI’ve stayed at The Somerset myself, and one of its biggest draws is how much you can do without leaving the resort. This privately owned two-bedroom residence comes with access to the same broad stretch of Grace Bay Beach, along with the resort’s infinity-edge pool, reverse-current lap pool, fitness center, and complimentary bikes, kayaks, paddleboards, snorkeling gear, and Caicos Kids Club. The condo itself is a ground-floor duplex overlooking the croquet lawn, with a king primary suite upstairs and a twin bedroom with its own sitting area below. There is also a washer and dryer, which is particularly useful for families settling in for longer stretches of time. One distinction from a traditional Somerset booking: Breakfast and daily housekeeping aren’t included, though stays of seven nights or longer receive a midweek clean.

Things to do nearby: Provo Golf Club, Grace Bay shops and restaurants, Princess Alexandra National ParkBeachfront escape in Blue Hills
Number of guests: 10
Bed and bath: 5 bedrooms, 5.5 baths
Why we love it: Private infinity pool, secluded beach, open-air showersFour ocean-facing king suites make this home, called Castaway, especially well-suited to a group of couples, as each opens onto a private shaded terrace overlooking the Caribbean. Two of the suites feature soaking tubs and open-air showers, while the fifth and final suite, a queen, faces the gardens for a little something different. Expansive glass doors bring the water into the open living spaces, which spill onto an infinity-edge pool and a quiet stretch of white sand. Kayaks can be launched straight from the beach, and a nearby reef adds easy snorkeling to the mix. For a change of scenery, horseback rides through the water are just minutes away, while tasty bites at Da Conch Shack are a short walk down the beach.
Location: Thompson Cove, Providenciales

Cottage overlooking Chalk Sound
Number of guests: 4
Bed and bath: 2 bedrooms, 2 baths
Why we love it: Covered terrace, kayak, paddleboard, sunset viewsIt’s hard to compete with the color of Chalk Sound, and at Bashert Cottage, that electric blue water is on display from nearly every angle. Inside, vaulted ceilings and exposed beams give the open living area an airy feel, while a wall of glass doors opens directly onto the terrace, pulling the view inside. Instead of a pool, the cottage has something a little more unusual: its own small stretch of sand on the sound, complete with loungers, plus a kayak and paddleboard for exploring the water. When you do leave, two of Providenciales’s loveliest beaches are close by: sheltered Taylor Bay and Sapodilla Bay, known for their clear, shallow water and long, gentle wade into the sea.
Location: Chalk Sound, Providenciales
Things to do nearby: Sapodilla Bay, Taylor Bay, Chalk Sound National ParkPalm-fringed studio in The Bight
Number of guests: 3
Bed and bath: Studio, 1 bath
Why we love it: Large balcony, pool and hot tub, walking distance from the beachPalm trees fill the view from the large balcony at this second-floor studio in The Bight, with a glimpse of the ocean beyond. It’s the kind of spot where the balcony may become your favorite room, whether for coffee in the morning or a drink after the beach. A vaulted ceiling keeps the studio feeling breezy rather than cramped, with a queen bed and enough living space to settle in comfortably. The kitchen is a proper one, a welcome distinction for a rental this size. Downstairs, a pool and hot tub are tucked into the tropical landscape, while three paths put the beach within a 10-minute walk. This studio’s appeal is its simplicity: a polished little home base for two in a part of Providenciales that puts plenty within easy reach.

Two-level penthouse on Grace Bay Beach
Number of guests: 8
Bed and bath: 3 bedrooms, 3 baths
Why we love it: Oceanfront balcony, shared pool and hot tub, beachfront settingOnly 18 residences (including this one) share The Grandview’s stretch of Grace Bay Beach, giving this two-level penthouse a more intimate feel than the island’s larger resorts. The condo is spread across two stories, and the primary suite claims the entire upper level with a wall of windows drawing your eye toward the sea. On the bottom floor, the living room opens onto a broad balcony that may well become the gathering place, whether everyone is lingering over breakfast or watching the light change over Grace Bay in the evening. There’s plenty of room for a family or group of friends, with two additional king bedrooms and a sleeper sofa, but the scale never feels cavernous. A shared pool and hot tub sit between the building and the beach, and with so few residences sharing them, neither feels like a typical crowded resort amenity.

FAQ:
Where are the best places to stay in Turks and Caicos?
For a first visit, Providenciales offers the greatest variety and the easiest access to restaurants, shopping, beaches, and activities. Grace Bay is the center of the action, while Turtle Cove and The Bight put you close to snorkeling and dining. Chalk Sound and Taylor Bay, on the other hand, are quieter choices farther from the resort strip. Travelers looking for more seclusion can head to North or Middle Caicos, where development is limited and beaches are far less crowded. Grand Turk boasts beautiful beaches alongside the historic streets of Cockburn Town, while private islands such as Parrot Cay offer a more exclusive resort experience.
How long should you visit Turks and Caicos?
Five to seven days is a good amount of time for most Turks and Caicos trips, particularly if you plan to stay primarily on Providenciales. That leaves enough time for several beach days along with snorkeling and boating excursions, and the ability to explore different parts of the island without overloading your itinerary. If you want to combine Providenciales with North or Middle Caicos, Grand Turk, or one of the private islands, consider a week or longer so the additional ferry or flight connections don’t make the trip feel rushed.
