A former Los Angeles gang member accused of ordering the 1996 murder of rap legend Tupac Shakur has been sentenced to life in prison, with a minimum term of 40 years, nearly 30 years after the killing in Las Vegas.
Duane “Keefe D” Davis, a former member of the South Side Compton Crips gang, was found guilty in late August following a trial that included incriminating revelations he made about the night of the murder in his memoir.
Announcing the sentence, Judge Carli Kierny said Davis had no right to take a person away from his family, deprive him of his life and future, and then profit from it.
“Especially when that person is named Tupac Shakur,” Kierny said as she imposed the life sentence, with a minimum term of 40 years.
