Top-ranked bantamweight Farid Basharat has been removed from the UFC roster, MMA Fighting has learned.
Basharat (16-0) completed his contract with the organization with a victory over John Garza in July and wasn’t offered a new deal after extending his winning streak to 20. He also holds notable wins over Jean Matsumoto, Chris Gutierrez, and Taylor Lapilus.
Having fought out his deal, Basharat is free to compete for any other promotion, although the UFC could also potentially re-sign him at some point in the future.
The 29-year-old talent had a successful run in the promotion with seven victories in seven bouts since he earned a contract on Dana White’s Contender Series in 2022 and battled his way to a spot in the top 10 of the UFC’s official list at 135 pounds.
Farid’s older brother Javid Basharat was also let go by the UFC earlier off a victory, and has since joined the PFL.
