LeBron responds to Trump for criticizing his behavior during the anthem

'LeBron James and Donald Trump have gotten embroiled in a controversy once again. The President of the United States criticized the attitude of the Sixers player during the performance of the national anthem before the first game of the season at Madison Square Garden against the Knicks, and he has already received his response. "There isn't much news in the office today," the forward quipped about the controversies sparked by the president.'

'Trump said that LeBron should "apologize to all those great warriors and heroes who died for the American flag and for everything our country represents. I said from the beginning that he is useless, a total disgrace".'

Donald Trump, presidente de Estados Unidos

Those were the president's words when he saw that the NBA star did not remain still during the playing of the anthem but instead seemed to be practicing a golf swing and a jump shot while most of his teammates did remain motionless. However, Trump's criticism contrasts with his own behavior on some occasions. In 2020, the Miami Herald published a video showing the president waving his hands as if conducting an orchestra while the anthem was playing.

LeBron, active in social causes

It's one more controversy between one of the most famous athletes in the United States and the country's president. LeBron, active in social issues, especially during the "Black Lives Matter" movement, has received a lot of criticism from Trump: "This is a beautiful country and we are never going to let a single person dictate how beautiful and powerful we are".

"I still know what I’m doing on the court and, obviously, I give everything for basketball, but right now I can have a greater impact off the court than on it. I want to keep inspiring people with the way I play, but there are many more things I can do off the court to help educate people, inspire them, bring them together, and empower them," LeBron said at the time.
