Hon. Segun Ogunwuyi, the Chief of Staff to the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has officially resigned from his position.
In a formal resignation letter dated Monday, October 12, 2026, Ogunwuyi stated that his departure takes immediate effect.
Ogunwuyi, who was a former member of the Oyo State House of Assembly and House of Representatives, becomes one of the consecutive string of resignations from various top aides within the Makinde administration over the last two months.
His resignation has fueled strong political speculation regarding internal wranglings within the governor’s camp and a potential political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections
The development also comes amid speculation that he might be considering a move to the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of 2027.
“There have been internal disagreements within the political camp, and Ogunwuyi’s resignation has further fuelled speculation about possible realignments ahead of the 2027 elections.”
“There are suggestions that he could be considering joining the APC, but we cannot say that definitively at this stage,” a source familiar with the development said.
Although Ogunwuyi did not disclose his reasons for leaving the government in his resignation letter, sources familiar with the situation suggested that internal political disagreements could be connected to the latest departure.
There was, however, no official confirmation that he had decided to join the APC.
In his resignation letter, Ogunwuyi said his decision took effect immediately, while expressing gratitude to Makinde for the opportunity to serve in the administration.
“I respectfully write to resign my appointment as Chief of Staff to the Governor of Oyo State, with effect from today, 12th October, 2026,” he wrote.
Describing his time in government as fulfilling, the former Chief of Staff said he was proud of the administration’s achievements and remained confident in the state’s continued progress.
“Serving the Government and the good people of Oyo State has been a great honour. It has been deeply fulfilling to be part of the exceptional team that has worked relentlessly to deliver the remarkable achievements of this administration,” the letter read.
Ogunwuyi added that he remained proud of the collective accomplishments of the administration in advancing the state’s development.
“I remain immensely proud of what we have collectively accomplished in advancing the growth, development and prosperity of our dear State.
“As I take this decision, I do so with profound gratitude for the opportunity to serve, with confidence in the continued progress of Oyo State,” he stated.
He concluded the letter by reaffirming his loyalty to the state and the country.
