Millions of American veterans will receive their next monthly disability benefits in the coming weeks, providing financial support to those living with lifelong injuries or illnesses connected to their military service.
The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) distributes tax-free disability compensation each month, with payment amounts determined by the severity of a veteran's service-connected conditions and how many dependent family members they have. More than six million veterans nationwide currently collect disability benefits.
November's payment schedule comes shortly after the announcement of a 3.6 percent cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) for 2027, which is expected to increase monthly compensation for eligible veterans.
The VA has also reported record disability claims processing figures for the 2026 fiscal year, alongside a reduction in the number of outstanding claims.
When Are November 2026 VA Disability Payments Coming?
VA disability benefits are generally distributed on the first day of each month, covering the previous month's entitlement.
Because November 1 falls on a Sunday, payments covering October will be issued on Friday, October 30. The payment covering November will then be issued on Tuesday, December 1.
The final payment of 2026, covering December's benefits, is scheduled for Thursday, December 31, because January 1, 2027, is a federal holiday.
Veterans can check their payment history, including previous deposits, through their VA.gov accounts.

How Much Are VA Disability Benefits?
VA disability compensation provides tax-free monthly payments to veterans with physical or mental health conditions that were caused or worsened by their military service.
Benefits are determined by a disability rating, ranging from 10 percent to 100 percent in 10-percentage-point increments, reflecting the severity of a veteran's service-connected conditions. Veterans with higher disability ratings generally receive larger payments, while those rated at 30 percent or above may qualify for additional compensation based on their dependents.
Under the VA's current compensation rates, a veteran with a 10 percent disability rating receives $180.42 per month, while somebody with a 50 percent rating receives $1,132.90.
A veteran rated 100 percent disabled with no dependents receives $3,938.58 per month. Additional compensation may be available depending on family circumstances or qualifying disabilities.
COLA 2027 and VA Disability Benefits
Veterans are expected to receive a 3.6 percent increase in disability compensation next year, following the Social Security Administration's Wednesday announcement. The increase is higher than the 2.8 percent adjustment implemented for 2026 and is the largest annual COLA since 2023.
VA disability compensation generally increases by the same percentage as Social Security benefits, although the adjustment requires separate congressional legislation.
For a veteran with a 100 percent disability rating and no dependents, the adjustment would mean an additional $141.79 per month, or approximately $1,701 annually.
The COLA is intended to protect benefits against inflation, and is determined by changes in the Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers (CPI-W), comparing average prices between July and September with the equivalent period of the previous year.
Providing the VA adjustment receives congressional approval, the higher rates will take effect on December 1, 2026, with the first increased payment scheduled for December 31.
