BUSAN — Nexen Tire said on the 19th that it placed in the top 2% of companies worldwide and earned a "gold" rating for the third consecutive year in the 2026 ESG assessment by EcoVadis, a global sustainability ratings provider.
The company scored in the 98th percentile, an improvement from the top 3% a year earlier. It posted balanced results across all four assessment categories — environment, labor and human rights, ethics, and sustainable procurement — with the highest marks in the environment category.
In the environment category, the company was recognized for disclosing its greenhouse gas emissions across all scopes and for its ability to operate environmental management systems across its global sites. Based on approval from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), Nexen Tire has disclosed a target of cutting Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions 58.8% by 2034 from 2023 levels.
In labor and human rights, the company was credited with broadening the scope of its management systems across global operations. In sustainable procurement, it drew favorable marks for revising its supplier code of conduct, conducting ESG due diligence across its supply chain and providing ESG training for procurement staff. The ethics category showed the largest improvement of any area, reflecting anti-corruption and conflict-of-interest policies and expanded information security activities at global sites.
EcoVadis, headquartered in France, is a leading assessor of corporate sustainability practices, covering more than 150,000 companies in 185 countries. Automakers, particularly in Europe, have increasingly used EcoVadis ratings when selecting suppliers. The latest result is expected to further strengthen Nexen Tire's competitiveness in supplying original-equipment (OE) tires for new vehicles globally.
"Maintaining a gold rating for three consecutive years means our sustainability management system is working in practice on the ground," a Nexen Tire official said. "We will continue to systematically improve our ESG management and contribute to building a sustainable mobility ecosystem."
