The Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited (BTCL) has begun replacing old landline telephone numbers with new 11-digit numbers in six areas of Dhaka under its modernisation project.
The changes affect customers in Gulshan, Badda, Baridhara, Mohakhali, Banani and Dhaka Cantonment, according to a BTCL announcement issued on October 14, 2026.
Under the project, old seven-digit numbers beginning with 8831 and 8837 are being replaced in phases with new numbers connected to newly installed IP-based MOTN AGW exchanges.
The old numbers were served by TDM-based ZTE exchanges.
BTCL said it was trying to retain the final digits of existing numbers as far as possible during the replacement process.
Customers can find the lists of old and new telephone numbers on the company’s official website, www.btcl.gov.bd. BTCL will also notify customers of their new numbers through phone calls as the changes are implemented.
The initiative aims to improve and modernise telecommunications services for customers in the affected areas.
