Mogadishu (HOL) — Banadir Regional Police on Sunday denied reports circulating on social media that security forces had entered Hormuud Telecom offices in Mogadishu to conduct investigations.
In a statement issued Oct. 18, the police command rejected allegations that officers had entered the telecommunications company's facilities in Bakaara Market and its main administrative headquarters along the airport road.
The reports alleged that police officers were conducting searches and investigations at the two locations under a court order.
“The command warns media outlets and social media users against spreading unverified information, and clarifies that anyone who intentionally fabricates or disseminates such false reports will face legal action in accordance with the law,” the police statement said.
The command urged journalists and the public to verify information through official sources before publishing or sharing reports.
Hormuud Telecom has not publicly commented on the allegations.
Social media reports had suggested that the alleged investigation was linked to recent political and security developments in South West State, where tensions have persisted between the federal government and supporters of former regional President Abdiaziz Hassan Mohamed Laftagareen.
The federal government had previously imposed financial restrictions on certain members of Laftagareen’s administration and their associates amid the political dispute.
