KUALA LUMPUR: Olympic champion An Se Young jokingly entertained the idea of playing women's doubles after cruising into the second round of the Denmark Open in Odense today.
South Korean badminton superstar defeated Ukraine's world No. 41 Polina Buhrova 21-13, 21-11.
In a lighthearted Badminton World Federation interview following the match, a reporter asked if she would consider playing men's singles given her dominance in the women's game.
"What are you talking about? No, no. I love women's singles," Se Young said.
When asked if she would try women's doubles, Se Young named compatriots Kim Ga Eun (world No. 13) and Sim Yu Jin (world No. 16) as potential partners.
"Oh yes, I want to try women's doubles. Ga Eun plays very well, and Yu Jin is also a very good doubles player. The two are really good players in women's doubles," she said.
Se Young, who won gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics, has claimed nine of the 11 tournaments she has played this year.
While women's singles remains her main focus, she said she would be open to a doubles appearance in the future.
